5 Design Tips to Transform Your Small Balcony

Now that we have been amid this pandemic since March 2020 we have realized the value of our small balconies, terraces, etc. That was the place we could spend some time after work, take a break from work, be close to nature, see the open skies and get some fresh air while sipping our tea/coffee. The place that we ignored or never really cared for or used to dump some extra stuff was suddenly our escape, our solace, our space to switch off and get some privacy. It became imperative to keep it neat and clean and aesthetic.

Most people were skeptical about whether investing in a, big or small balcony, is worth it or not. Now we know better, it is worth it. It has now become our favorite spot to relax and unwind. Follow these tips to design your balcony and make it more interesting. Also, you can hire an interior designer to take the load off your shoulders!

1. Upgrade the flooring

The key step to leveling up the décor in the balcony is the right flooring. The appearance of the balcony changes when you add some colorful or patterned tiles. It immediately looks classy and full of versatility. Green is said to be good for the eyes. Sipping your morning tea on the balcony which has an artificial grass floor can be good for your physical and mental health.

It can also make your small balcony look trendy. Wooden deck floors are never getting old. The flooring is not going to cost you a lot due to the small space on your balcony. So, this method not only brings elegance to your balcony but is also inexpensive.

2. Vertical Space

As you have less space on the floor, you can utilize the vertical space. You can have a vertical garden. If you are fond of greenery and plants but putting pots on the floor restricts your movement, you should invest in a vertical stand for your pots. This gives your balcony a fresh look. If you are looking for a more colorful look then why stop at small plants. Bring the colorful pots and flowers to the balcony and hang them on the walls or the railings. Organic farming is on the rise. You can also follow the trend and grow some herbs like tulsi, curry leaves, coriander, mint, etc on your balcony.

3. Bring the furniture

When you decide to move some furniture on the balcony, think practically. The space is small so invest in furniture which covers less space. An option for a chair can be a folding chair. You can fix a small table on the railing and use it. If you have some space, you can add wooden benches or even add some colors to the benches. Make sure the bench or chair is comfortable for you to relax. The interior designer’s pick is furniture made from cane and bamboo. Get some furniture that is durable and looks chic. Be it your outfit or your house, accessorizing can give some character and elegance to it. Decorate the balcony with some wall hangings or art pieces. The art pieces could be of some famous or funny quotes. You could even hang a swing and throw some cushions in it to enjoy the sun or the cool breeze. Adding a colorful rug is also an option just in case you are unable to change the flooring. These decorations can lighten your mood and bring some positivity making you feel happier.

5. Light it up

Balconies have an abundance of light during the day but we do need some subtle lighting in the evenings. Your small balcony can look beautiful with some subtle lighting in the evening when you have some friends over or you want to have a candlelight dinner. Try hanging some lanterns and you will get retro vibes. You can also use some Chinese lanterns or use some fairy lights to decorate the balcony. If you don’t have an electric point, you can put a lamp nearby to read your favorite book. Lighting some fragrant candles, especially the aromatherapy ones near your bench is a perfect way to relax your mind. After all, it’s all about creating your own relaxation island!

Never underestimate a small space. Interior designers can make even the smallest space a very useful corner. Take full advantage of your balcony and enjoy spending time on it. We are not sure when a pandemic-free world will happen but till then let’s be positive and value our homes.
